WAC Confidential is the WWII-era memoir of Bernice Perdue and her time in the Women's Army Corps (WAC). She enlisted in 1944 and did her basic training at Fort Oglethorpe in Georgia and afterwards was transferred to a large eastern army hospital and assigned to the Neuro-psychiatric Department. The WAC was established in 1942 and was converted to active duty status the following year. It was eventually disbanded in 1978 when it was integrated with men's units. Bernice B. Perdue (1894-1976), prior to her enlistment, lived with her husband in Fresno, California, where she worked as a teacher. She had also spent ten years traveling the world and lectured on her travels. During the First World War she served in the Army Nurse Corps as a physiotherapist's aid (1917-1918) and assisted veterans with prosthetics and rehabilitation. After the Second World War she worked for twelve years at the Los Angeles County General Hospital as a social worker.
