The author was the wife of trophy hunter, big game guide, bush pilot and outfitter Ken Oldham and at the time of writing was the only woman licensed by the state of Alaska to fly hunters over the Arctic seas for polar bear hunting. The stories in the novel are all based on true experiences she and her family has had while living with the Eskimo.
