A Christmas Nativity story. The poor cow Gabriela is locked out in the cold while all the other animals are inside the warm barn, surrounding Mary, Joseph, and the Christ child. A great wind startles Joseph and he goes to open the door. Susan Seddon Boulet (1941-1997) was born in Brazil to British parents and was raised on a farm. In 1967 she immigrated to the United States where she married and pursued her art. She lived in Oakland, California. The calligraphy by John Prestianni is in a chancery italic, based on 16th century models.
