A complete illustrated instruction book on the use of the horizontal bar with techniques and exercises for gymnasts, published in 1902 by the author (who at the time was the gymnastics instructor at the University of Chicago).
Horace C. Butterwoth (1868-1939) served as the Director of Physical Culture at the University of Chicago from 1892 to 1902, was their instructor for gymnastics, and also became the coach of the basketball, baseball, and football teams. In 1903 he served as the Athletic Director for Northwestern University; later he served as the football coach for Temple University. Previous owner was Clarence L. Dizney (Alpha Chi Alpha fraternity), a football player for the University of Oregon (1928-1930) and Oregon State College (1931).
