Family history of Abbott, Hollister, and Kirby families.
The Abbott family history is traced back to the father of Josiah Abbott of Massachusetts. Josiah Abbott and his mother, Dorothy Stiles Abbott, moved to Jaffrey, New Hampshire (Cheshire County) and then to Warrensville, Ohio (Cuyahoga County) near Cleveland.
The Hollister family has its American origin with John Hollister, born in England, and who immigrated in 1664 and settled in Weathersfield, Connecticut. The author traces the Kirby family to Asa Kirby, born in Ireland (prior to 1776) and who married Elizabeth Whitesides and settled on the James River in Virginia. The family later resided in Kentucky and Monroe & Linn County, Missouri.
The last third of the book is given to biographies of each of the sixteen children of the author's parents, William Dudley Abbott (1821-1896) and Mahulda Kirby Abbott (1822-1921): Luther, John, Joseph, Sarah, Caroline, Martha, Hubbard, Asa, Caleb, Thomas, James, George, Benjamin, Susan, and Martin. Three of the author's siblings married into the Nester family.
