Previous owner was Sybil Lippitt (1883-1964). In her written note, dated 1892, she indicates that she took the book from her cousin Laurence Selling, who later became a well-known Portland physician and who was the son of the Jewish philanthropist and Oregon politician Ben Selling. Sybil notes that it came from Cousin Tillie's house. "Tillie" was Benjamin's wife Matilda.
