Rufus Stanley Woodward (1895-1965) was a sportswriter and sports page editor. In 1974 he was inducted into the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Hall of Fame. He was the first person to use the term "ivy" to refer to the Ivy League Schools (1933). In 1925 he became the sports editor for the Boston Herald and in 1930 he went to work for the New York Herald Tribune, where he served as sportswriter and later sports editor until 1948.
