The company was founded in 1870 in Winona, Minnesota and in 1912 they opened a branch in Memphis. The Memphis branch closed in 1930 and the company continued for many years at their Winona location.
The author of the brochure, Dr. James M. Booher (1879-1958?) was formerly the Chief Surgeon for the U.S. Bureau of Mines and was also the Surgeon for Carnegie Steel Company.
