Edmund Edward Fournier d'Albe (1868-1933) was an Irish physicist, astrophysicist and chemist, and a university professor. He was the inventor of the optophone, a device that could translate printed letters into distinct sounds, via a beam of light, and which was intended as a reading apparatus for the blind. He also had an pronounced interest in parapsychology and spiritualism and was involved with the Dublin section of the Society for Psychical Research.
