Salvatore Scarpitta (1919-2007) was an American artist. Born in New York City and raised in Los Angeles, he studied at the Academia di Belle Arti in Rome. During the 1950's he exhibited at the leading avant-garde gallery Galleria La Tartaruga and then in New York at Leo Castelli's gallery.
