Elizabeth Lambert Wood (1871-1962), a native of Oregon and daughter of the pioneer and horticulturist Joseph Lambert, was the author of several western and historical novels and books for young adults. Wolves of the Illahee was Wood's fourth novel and was the third book in a wilderness series, the first two being The Trail of the Bear and Cougar Pass. The story is set mostly in Oregon (Willamette Valley, Cascades, Rogue River and Klamath Lake regions, etc.) as well as Washington state (Hazel Dell being one of the locations). Published by the Metropolitan Press which in 1938 changed its name to Binfords & Mort.
