ndigestion, which was first published in 1880, is an review of the malady and the various known methods of treating it. It looks at symptoms, chronic conditions, and its separate manifestations in adults, youth, and infants. Various methods of treating it are discussed, including diet, baths, mental occupation, hygiene, drugs, galvanism (application of electrical current), inhalation of oxygen gas, surgical interference, change of scenery, clothing, social mixing, cultivation of music, and sunbathing. About ninety pages describe many cases that Dr. Gill had seen, describing their individual condition, the treatment prescribed, and the results.
John Beadnell Gill (1835-1883) was a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, and had served as surgeon for Dover Hospital and as a physician at the Folkestone Dispensary and Infirmary. His last residence and place of practice was Canterbury.
