Louise Ayres Garnett (1877-1937) was a poet, playwright, composer and lyricist, and author of several children's books, her best known being The Muffin Shop and The Rhyming Ring. The Joyous Pretender was her only novel. She was a longtime resident of Evanston, Illinois, and was active in Chicago literary and musical circles.
