Quirky verse and illustrations by Harry Sellick Grannatt (1898-1976) who, around 1935, began to submit daily contributions of verse to the Oregon Journal newspaper in Portland and which were featured on page one. Prior to that, he had been a founding cast member on the hit radio show, the Hoot Owls, which began in 1923 on Portland's radio station KGW (they were later joined by Mel Blanc).
Grannatt's poetry occasionally finds some contemporary references, including Einstein's mathematics, Mussolini, Margaret Sanger, the National Labor Relations Board and the Civilian Conservation Corps.
