The author, William Grant Wolfe (1874-1947), was a lifelong resident of Guernsey county, an esteemed educator, and the Superintendent of the Guernsey County Schools for twenty-one years. After retiring in 1935 he began work on his history of the county and was reported to have read every page of every newspaper ever published in Guernsey County.
