The poet and educator Ester de Izaguirre (b. 1923) was born in Paraguay (to a Paraguayan mother and an Argentinian father); her family moved to Buenos Aires when she was five. In her work as an author, she has won many awards, including the Premio del Fondo Nacional de las Artes. As an educator she has had many teaching engagements at various international universities over the years, including stints as visiting lecturer at both California State University (San Diego) and the University of California (Irvine).
Inscribed by Ester to Ida Halperin, a translator and a foreign language instructor at the University of California, who herself had immigrated to the United States from Argentina in 1957.
