Description: First Macmillan edition, first printing (September 1927). Blue cloth boards pictorially stamped in navy blue with gilt lettering on spine. Faint blemishes on the front board. Illustrated endpapers. Short gift inscription, dated 1928, on the illustrated page preceding the frontispiece. The final five pages and rear endpapers have a stain along the upper part of the fore-edge margin; a few other spots of soiling to pages. 17 illustrated plates plus color frontispiece. Many additional illustrations throughout. 258, [1] pp. 7.5 x 5.75 inches.

A little boy playing in the woods finds a hollow tree with a nest in it. Instead of birds, it is filled with fairies. He pockets a few of his new friends and they venture out towards Fairyland, sometimes traveling via a great white albatross named Jenny or in the boat from the Magic Bay.

Jean Ingelow (1820-1897) was an English poet and novelist. Dugald Stewart Walker (1883-1937) was an American illustrator.
