Phyllis McGinley (1905-1978) was an American author of children's books and the 1961 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. Colleen Browning (1918-2003) was born in England and studied at London's Slade School of Art. She immigrated to the United States in 1948 and became a pivotal figure in New York City's realism movement and later developed her work in the style of magic realism. She taught at the Pratt Institute and the National Academy of Design and her work has been exhibited at the Whitney Museum of American Art and National Museum of Women in the Arts, among others.
