The Boy with the U.S. Survey was the first volume in Rolt-Wheeler's U.S. Service Series issued between 1909 and 1929 (20 volumes in all). Purportedly, each of these volumes was first submitted to the chief of the respective bureau in order to insure the accuracy of the portrayal.
Francis Rolt-Wheeler (1876-1960) was born Francis William Wheeler in England and immigrated to the United States in 1901. In addition to his U.S. Service Series, he also wrote many other books for young people, including a ten volume series, The Science-History of the Universe.
