Title: Johannes Georg Lutz, 1706-1756, and His Descendants
Author: Margaret D. Lutes
Description: Red cloth boards with gilt lettering. About ten pages have previous owner's notations; some spots of soiling to pages. 150 pp. 9.25 x 6 inches. A genealogical history of Johannes Georg Lutz (aka Hans Jerg Lutz, 1706-1756) and his descendants.
Lutz left Wurttemberg (Wurtemburg) in 1753, crossed the Atlantic on the Ship Windsor, and arrived at Philadelphia later that year. His family settled in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. It appears that many of his nearest descendants then settled in North Carolina (in Lincoln County and Catawba County); later family members spread out across the South, particularly to Missouri and Georgia (Rabun County, etc.).
The final fifty or so pages is the genealogical record of his son, Johannes Jacob Lutz (aka Jacob Lutz, d. 1808), and his descendants. Many of these migrated to Indiana (Harrison County and Lawrence County) and Bollinger County, Missouri, and some further made their way to California. Lutesville, Missouri is named for Eli Lutes, one of the descendants.
