A detailed work on George Washington, his wife Martha, and his mother Mary, based on the letters and papers of two men who were very familiar with the Washington family: the English portrait artist James Sharples (1751/52-1811) and George's close business associate, Robert Cary. Robert Cary & Co. was the merchant house that assisted Washington with the export of his tobacco crops to England between the years 1759 and 1773.
