Genealogical history of the Lindsay family, beginning with early ancestors in Scotland, including a chart going back to the Baron Baldric de Limesay in the year 1086. The Lindsay forefather in Virginia was Reverend David Lindsay of Wicomico parish, Northumberland County, who came to the colony before 1655. The line is traced mostly through his grandson, Opie Lindsay. This book contains some family inventories as well as interesting stories of emigration, Revolutionary War service, character and appearance, and names of children and spouses spanning nearly eight generations.

The Appendix actually comprises more than half the book, providing the reader with a wealth of information on Lindsays in other parts of Virginia, New England, New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, Kansas, and Nebraska.
