Genevive "Jennie" Violet Getty (1861-1913 ) was an educator in Kirkland and Seattle (Broadway High School), Washington. After her death, her work was memorialized in the publication of Little Friends in the Snow. She was an avid naturalist and after her death, ten volumes of her pressed flowers were donated to the University of Washington (in addition to her drawings and photographs and her extensive collection of birds, eggs, and nests).
Her second book, Bird Life in Washington, was published in 1916. She was considered to have some of most extensive first-hand knowledge of birds in the state of Washington and worked to cultivate amongst men and boys a sentiment against killing them.
