The first ninety pages or so are Babson's travel diary and his descriptive travelogues of journeys made through the South Pacific Ocean, which includes Fiji, Tahiti, Samoa, Bali and Java, between the years 1937 and 1940. This is followed by poetry and a short story.
Sydney Gorham "Gorie" Babson (1912-2010) was a poet and a pediatrician. He grew up in the Hood River Valley and attended both Reed College (Class of 1933) and the University of Oregon. He had a private pediatric practice in Portland for twenty years prior to being hired as the first full-time pediatric staff member at the Doernbecher Children's Hospital. He also became Oregon's first perinatologist.
The artist, Dorothy Goodwin Blodgett (1896-1982), was born in Covington, Kentucky and in 1923 moved to Parkdale, Oregon.
