Martha Matilida O'Toole goes skipping off to school, only to discover that she has forgotten her slate, her book, her pen, her shoes, and not least of all, her dress.
Martha Matilda O'Toole was the first Ed Copp song to appear in book form. It was originally heard on the 1958 record, Jim Copp Tales, the first release from the author's label, Playhouse Records.
This is a very early example of the illustrative work of Steven Kellogg (b.1941) who, over the course of his career, has created more than 90 children's books. In 1989 he won the Regina Medal for his "continued, distinguished contribution to children's literature." He has also been the recipient of the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the Irma Black Award for Excellence in Children's Literature.
