These 1787 tax lists provide the following: the name of each person subject to taxation or who had property; the name of the person charged with the tax (if different than the first person); the number of white males above age 16 and under age 21; the number of blacks above age 16; the number of blacks under age 16; the number of horses/mares/colts/mules; and the number of cattle. For some entries, other brief notes are also supplied.

For the collection of this data, the commissioner was required to make a visit to each person. So, the data is here also presented additional, chronologically organized lists, giving the date on which he visited each person. This is useful because it makes it possible to determine probable neighbors. For example, in Washington County, the commissioners made their rounds between April and October of 1787; you can see the 12 individuals he visited on April 24 (who all must have lived in some proximity to each other), those he visited on April 25th, and so on.

The seven counties are:
Bourbon County [now Kentucky]: Tax Lists A, B & C.
Jefferson County [now Kentucky]: Tax Lists A, B, C (each from 1789) and List D (probably 1790).
Pittsylvania County: Tax Lists A & B.
Prince Edward County: Tax Lists A & B.
Spotsylvania County: Tax Lists A, B, and Fredericksburg Town.
Stafford County: Tax Lists A & B.
Washington County: Tax Lists A & B.
