Produced for the Charles Wimar exhibition at the City Art Museum of St. Louis, held October 13 to November 18, 1946. Wimar was a German-American painter who concentrated on Native Americans in the West and the great herds of buffalo. He was educated at the Dusseldorf Academy and is associated with the Dusseldorf school of painting. Four lunettes in the dome of St. Louis's Old Courthouse murals by him, depicting events in St. Louis history.
Includes a 24 page introductory essay by Perry T. Rathbone, with bibliography, discussing the life and work of Charles Wimar. The exhibition catalog lists 103 paintings, oil sketches, and drawings, giving their specifications, name of source collection, and sometimes providing a historical notes or a list of earlier exhibitions where seen. Also exhibited were about a dozen pieces of Wimar's personal effects (pistols, palettes, etc.) which are listed. 22 pages of b/w reproductions of selected pieces (one or two per page).
