James Eddington was born 8 October 1798 in Minster, Kent, England. His parents were James Eddington and Eleanor. He married Eliza Seaton (1799-1892), daughter of William Seaton and Ann Franklin, 1 April 1819 in Alverstoke, Hampshire, England.
They had six children, two of whom are known to have made it to maturity: William and Eliza. William Eddington (b. 1821, Portsea, d. 1913, SLC) was baptized into the LDS in 1850 in Portsmouth and immigrated to the United States in 1853. He traveled overland in 1853, leaving Iowa for Salt Lake City with the Joseph W. Young Company. Eliza Eddington (b. 1836, Portsmouth, d. 1914, SLC) married Samuel Ollis in 1863 in Portsea and immigrated to Salt Lake City in 1901.
