Previous owner's name on ffep. Red pencil underlining appears in table of contents and in several of the picture captions. Pencil marginalia. A few spots of soiling. 95 illustrations (including three maps), many being portraits. 295 pp. 9 x 6 inches.

The author, Jefferson "Charka" Davis Riddle (1862-1941), was the son of Modoc leader Toby "Winema" Riddle, and was himself a witness to the war. He wrote this account with an aim to give both the Modoc Indian and the whites perspective on the troubles.
