Martin Wessel Pretorius (1905-1992) was born in Pretoria, South Africa and immigrated to the United States in 1926. He soon began traveling the country lecturing on health, wellness, and vitality, promoting naturopathic principles. In California, te founded his own company, Pretorius Protective Foods, and established the Food Chemistry Educational Institute in Hollywood, and the Pretoria Valley Nutritional Research Foundation in Escondido.
